Kiira Motors Project

Kiira Motors Project is an Industrial Development intervention supported by the Presidential Initiative for Science and Technology Innovations.  The Project is aiming at establishing vehicle manufacturing capabilities in Uganda for Pickups, SUVs, Sedans, Light and Medium Duty trucks and Buses.

The ultimate goal is to establish Kiira Motors Corporation as an Automotive Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) in East and Central Africa.

The realization of the Kiira Motors Corporation vision is expected to go a long way in contributing towards transforming Uganda into a Middle income Economy by 2040 by providing a platform with high intellectual convergence of disciplines ranging from Engineering, Entrepreneurship, Business Administration, Marketing and Sales, Economics, Law and Art and Design to build a solid home grown automotive industry progressively enhancing local content.

Achievements of the Project so far:

  • A Business Case Study of the Kiira EV was completed and launched by the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister in 2015.
  • The Kayoola Solar Bus Launch was successfully held on the 16th February 2016 by His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
  • The East Africa Community summit directed for the development of a policy on the Automotive Industry and reduction of the importation of second hand vehicles in the community. Kiira Motors Corporation is to provide the technical support in Uganda.
