The Uganda Development Corporation (UDC) was set up by the Uganda Development Corporation Act 2016 as the investment arm of Government with the primary objective of facilitating industrial and economic development of the country. This objective is met through; establishment of subsidiary and associated companies, entering into public private partnerships with any commercial, industrial or agricultural undertaking or enterprises, assisting in financing and management of undertakings promoting industrial or economic development; and promoting and facilitating research into industrial development. In the quest to implement this  mandate, UDC now seeks highly qualified and motivated Ugandans; to fill in the vacant positions listed below;

 

 

JOB TITLE - 1

DIRECTOR LEGAL & CORPORATE AFFAIRS/CORPORATION SECRETARY

Purpose of the Job

To plan, direct and control all legal related and corporate matters of the Corporation and manage Board affairs.

Main Duties

  • Head of department responsible for planning, managing and mentoring staff in the department
  • Principal Legal Advisor of the Corporation
  • Arranging the business at meetings of the Board
  • Taking minutes at the meetings of the Board
  • Keeping the records of the decisions and other policy records of the Board
  • Negotiate and draw contracts that are to be executed between the Corporation and third parties
  • Chief custodian of legal documentation of the Corporation
  • Managing the performance of the Legal and Corporate Affairs Department
  • Provide Company Secretariat services to the Corporation’s subsidiaries
  • Responsible for the custody of the Corporation’s seal
  • Defending the Corporation in courts of law
  • Oversee the carrying out of legal due diligence on investment proposals
  • Ensuring timely compliance with all statutory requirements
  • Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time

Person Specifications (1)

(Qualifications & Experience)

  • Bachelors of Law degree plus Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice and an advocate of the High Court of Uganda
  • Masters degree in Law or Business Administration
  • Professional qualification in ICSA is added advantage
  • Not less than 10 years working experience of which 5 should be at Senior level

Person Specifications (2) (Skills & Abilities)

  • Good understanding of Ugandan economy and appreciation of the culture and environment associated with commercial legal matters
  • Combination of public & private sector working methods
  • Demonstrable track record of performance, executive presence and decision making
  • Ability to interact, relate to, work with and support activities of a dynamic Corporation
  • Prior experience in administration and management with an organization and dealing with BOD
  • A track record of having handled litigations or court cases
  • Considerable knowledge, experience and competence in managing legal matters
  • Familiarity with the current global and local regulatory environment for investment and developmental projects
  • Proven moral character, integrity and well demonstrated leadership skills

 

 

JOB TITLE - 2

DIRECTOR FINANCE & ADMINISTRATION

Reports  to:

Executive Director

Purpose of the Job

To plan, direct and control financial resources of the Corporation, report on their use to the Executive Director/Accounting Officer, management and other stakeholders.

Main Duties

 

  • Head of department and  responsible for planning, managing and mentoring staff in the department
  • Head Finance & Administration function
  • Contribute to overall leadership, strategic planning and management of the Corporation
  • Oversee and supervise administrative function including property and facilities management, procurement and human resources and accounting
  • Provide advice on matters related to insurance and contractual obligations
  • Develop and oversee implementation of risk management policies and procedures and ensure organizational risks are minimized
  • Oversee payroll function and ensure employees are paid timely and in an accurate manner
  • Preparing monthly, quarterly and annual management  accounts and reports
  • Coordinate and oversee internal and external audit
  • Ensuring timely procurement and payment of the goods and services provided.
  • Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time

Person specifications (1)

(Qualifications & Experience)

  • Masters degree in Accounting, Business Administration (MBA)
  •  Membership of a Professional body (ACCA, CPA, CIMA & ICMA) or an equivalent membership to a professional accounting body.
  • Bachelors Degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Financial Management or Accounting
  • Post Graduate Qualifications in Management or Administration is desirable
  • At least 10 years working experience of which 5 are at supervisory level in Finance & Administration in a large and reputable organization.
  • Knowledge of computerized Accounting

JOB TITLE - 3

DIRECTOR INVESTMENTS DEVELOPMENT &  APPRAISAL

Reports to

Executive Director

Purpose of the Job

Provide leadership in the preparation of strategic investments and economic analysis of the Corporation’s Investments/programmes to enable the Corporation achieve its goals and objectives

Main Duties

  • Head of Department responsible for the Investment development and appraisal function.
  • Planning, managing and mentoring staff in the department
  • Development of Investments proposals in line with set criteria
  • Appraisal of Investment proposals to ensure their viability and compliance with national priorities and the set criteria
  • Monitor compliance with the relevant investment policies and any other policies in the investment process
  • Coordination with other departments and stakeholders to ensure successful execution of the Corporation’s investments
  • Develop and implement a strategy on resource mobilization to enable the Corporation have adequate funding
  • Provide leadership in priority setting and implementation of investments for economic and industrial development
  • Ensure that investment projects and programmes comply with National and Sector development plans and strategies
  • Put in place participatory approaches and methods to monitor and evaluate performance and impact of the Corporation’s investments
  • Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time

Person Specifications(1)

(Qualifications & Experience)

  • Masters degree in Economics, Statistics, Development Planning or related field
  • Honors degree in Economics, Statistics, Development Studies or related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years working experience in planning, economic & investments analysis, 5 of which should be at Senior Supervisory level

  • Proven evidence in quantitative and qualitative data analysis techniques
  • Excellent analytical skills and keenness to details
